Install PVC and Steel Conduit Runs
For ODC-T Facilities in Ankara / Turkey

Project Objectives

1) Under-ground Installation: Install new Schedule 80 PVC conduits and concrete manhole junction boxes.
2) Above-ground Installation:  Install new hot-dipped galvanized steel frame runs (mechanically attached to exterior building walls), hot-dipped galvanized steel junction boxes and stainless steel conduits.
3) Runs new 70mm2 and 120mm2 copper cross-section cables through new conduits to termination points - Approximately 500 meters in length.

Hand Excavation

BELOW AND LEFT:  In lawn areas, at concrete walks and crossing over an asphalt road,  we dug to a depth of about 50-60cm.  Because of the potential for hidden underground utility lines, we dug only 10cm deep per run until we achieved our overall desired depth.

Concrete Manhole and PVC Installation

BELOW AND RIGHT:  We installed precast concrete manholes to use as under-ground junction boxes; we ran the Schedule 80 PVC conduits from one manhole to the next.  The PVC conduits received number 3 grit sand over them to a depth of 12cm and then had a final fill of clean and compacted soil.

Stainless Steel Conduits Junction Boxes
H-Shape Frames

LEFT:  This photo shows the transition from the under-ground work (Schedule 80 PVC conduits); to the above-ground work (Stainless Steel (SS) conduits).  The PVC conduits run through newly installed concrete manhole junction boxes like the one in front of the Stainless Steel junction box shown in this photo.  At this juncture, we transitioned the conduits out of the ground and continued the runs via a Hot-dipped Galvanized Steel H-frame System that carries the SS conduits, the frame was mechanically attached to the exterior wall of the building shown in this photo; the following photos show this above-ground system.

When we completed the SS conduit runs, all that was the end of the conduit installation work.  We then proceeded to pull new 70mm2 and 120mm2 copper cross-section cables through the new conduits to their termination points.  The total run was approximately 500 meters in length.

After all the cables were pulled to their termination points, we filled the strip of road we removed with new asphalt, poured new concrete sidewalks, poured around new manholes (filling-in gaps around those areas), and re-graded and re-planted all lawn areas to close-out the project.  The project was completed in 34-days.
